ErinRae Software have developed a software tool to help couples who are trying for a baby to predict the times when they are most likely to be successful. The tool is designed to be used in conjunction with many of the proprietary
ovulation prediction kits on the market. These kits usually rely on the
detection of what is known as the LH surge. For an example of such
a kit, visit One can only realistically get pregnant on 4 or 5 days in the monthly menstrual cycle, and are most likely to achieve success within the first 72 hours following ovulation. Ovulation is triggered by a sudden increase (surge) in production of a hormone called luteinising hormone (LH). If one can detect the LH surge, then one can predict ovulation and therefore predict the most fertile days in the cycle. Some LH surge detection kits work rather like a pregnancy test, only each test detects LH in the urine rather than hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin). That is where it can all get a bit annoying. So that you don't waste the tests (and they are not cheap) you have to be pretty accurate in calculating which day in the cycle to commence testing. This usually relies on you keeping notes on your menstrual cycle history to make the necessary calculations. ErinRae Software's Ovulation Predictor will do all the hard work for you. All you have to do is store the date of each of your periods, and the Fertility Enquiry will tell you the estimated date of your next period, the date that you should commence testing for your LH surge, and your three most fertile days in the month. If you detect your LH surge, then update the Period History record with the date it was detected. The Fertility Enquiry will adjust accordingly. If you achieve a pregnancy, flag that against the record also. If you have any anomalous periods, you can also tell the enquiry to ignore the record completely. The Fertility Enquiry will allow you to use your last 3 periods to use in its calculations, or the last 6, or all the records you have (which is why it is important to correctly flag pregnancies etc).
